MP backs biodiesel tax break campaign

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a campaign to keep tax breaks for business who produce biodiesel.

Producers transforming cooking oil into biodiesel currently take advantage of a 20p differential but that is due to end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been fulfilling with the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said “a variety of small companies in Cornwall currently generate income from used cooking oil”.

He added: “In order to have the ability to get this type of market going it does require just a bit of lift which can be found in the kind of tax inevitable.”
